Seattle Public Schools recognizes that high school is an important time of growth, challenge and opportunity for our students and their families. Our goal is to create a strong set of comprehensive counseling services aligned with the American School Counseling Association (ASCA) Model to build students' academic achievement, personal development, and college/career awareness. We also strongly believe in partnering and collaborating with families throughout this process. Our program’s fundamental goal is to maximize access and equity for our students through activities that foster academic achievement, college readiness, and the attitudes, skills, and knowledge for success during and beyond high school.

The Comprehensive Guidance program at Chief Sealth International High School consists of a wide range of services that are available to all students. Those services include classroom guidance lessons, individual planning sessions, individual and small group short term counseling and responsive services.

Parents, the press, administrators and the general public often wonder just what it is that school counselors do on a daily basis. Gone are the days of school counselors sitting in their office simply handing out college applications, making schedule changes for students who want to drop a class or meeting with the troublemakers in the school. Today's school counselors are vital members of the education team. They help all students in the areas of academic achievement, personal/social development and career development, ensuring today's students become the productive, well-adjusted adults of tomorrow. Learn more about the school counselor's role." - American School Counselor Association
