    2018 Election Timeline:

    Thursday, April 26th - First Informational Meeting - Packets Available

    Thursday, May 3rd - Second Informational Meeting

    Thursday, May 10th - Packets and Videos due to Ms. Martin in the ASB office

    (packets will only be accepted before and after school until 4:15pm)

    May 11th - May 17th - Campaigning!

    Thursday, May 17th - Campaign Videos shown during Mentorship & Elections

    Please read the following information carefully, as elected officers will be held to the following job duties, rules, election guidelines and regulations:

    CSIHS Constitution SECTION 1: Election Standards

    1. Terms: All ASB officers, Class Officers, BLT student member and Student Council representatives shall be elected or appointed for a one-year term.
    1. All ASB officers, Class Officers and Student Council Representatives shall meet the eligibility requirements for co-curricular activities as established below. Students must have a term GPA of at least 2.0 and passing 5 full credit classes from the previous semester, they must maintain these standards and follow the guidelines as set forth in the 2007 Seattle Public Schools Athletic Academic Eligibility Standards.
    1. A student must be taking at least 4 full credit classes at Chief Sealth International High School to be an officer.

    Election Guidelines:

    • All candidates must have fewer than 10 unexcused absences and tardies in the current school year. (You must print-out and attach a source attendance report to your application.)
    • Must have completed application with campaign video submitted by May 10th @4:15 pm - No exceptions!
    • Video must be more that 1 minute, but no longer than 2 minutes. Videos must address how you will accomplish the duties and responsibilities listed for the office you are running. (Videos that do not talk about specific skills or are inappropriate will be rejected.)
    • Video must be submitted on CD or USB (no e-mail or youtube links) Please confirm that your video works on multiple computers and is saved in a format that can be uploaded to YouTube (to see examples of previous year’s videos, search Chief Sealth ASB on YouTube)

    • A maximum of $20 can be spent on your all campaign materials. This includes the value of any items that are donated or you already have. (You must submit receipts if challenged.) ASB supplies (butcher paper and poster paints) can be used at no charge. Please ask BEFORE purchasing items if you are unsure about this.
    • Campaign signs must follow these guidelines; No more than 10 “Large” Signs (Large is anything between 11” x 17” and 36” x 48”) No more than 25 “Small” Flyers (Small is anything up to 9” x 12”) No more than 50 buttons or pins. (No stickers allowed!)
    • All campaign materials must be ASB approved with the stamp prior to posting. Must use masking tape and post in appropriate places (ask Ms. Martin if you are unsure about this.)
    • No Negative Campaigning!

    Failure to follow these rules can result in disqualification from the election!


    Duties of the Student Government include, but are not limited to:

    ASB

    • Organize, plan, and execute all Spirit Assemblies and all Student Council meetings.
    • Attend monthly Seattle School District leadership meetings.
    • Maintain regular hours (min. 5 hours per week) in ASB office.
    • Be enrolled in the 2nd period leadership class.
    • Grant charters to clubs and organizations.
    • Approve all student body financing and spending.
    • Investigate and report on matters referred to it by the student body and/or faculty.
    • Fulfill duties as assigned by the Activity Coordinator.

    Senior Class

    • Organize, plan, and execute Homecoming dance and Senior Prom dance.
    • Select Graduation program, announcements, etc.
    • Assist Activity Coordinator in planning and executing all Senior activities (Graduation, Awards, etc.)
    • Work with PTSA to plan Grad Night.
    • Work with Advisor to maintain budget.
    • Lead Senior participation in spirit activities (wall decorating, lunchtime activities, spirit assemblies, etc.)
    • Assist ASB Officers as needed.

    Junior Class

    • Organize, plan, and execute Winter Ball dance.
    • Begin researching venues for Senior Prom.
    • Plan and execute at least one class fundraiser.
    • Lead Junior participation in spirit activities (wall decorating, lunchtime activities, spirit assemblies, etc.)
    • Assist ASB Officers as needed.

    Sophomore Class

    • Lead, organize, and operate concessions for basketball games.
    • Organize, plan, and execute Spring Dance (if applicable).
    • Plan and execute at least one class fund-raiser.
    • Lead Sophomore participation in spirit activities (wall decorating, lunchtime activities, spirit assemblies, etc.)
    • Assist ASB Officers as needed.

    Expected of ALL Officers

    • Attend all student council meetings.
    • Attend and help as needed at all assemblies, family nights, dances, open houses, and assist in school tours when needed.
    • Promote school spirit and engagement in a positive way.
    • Maintain regular office hours in the ASB office or concession stand (minimum 2 hours a week).

    Duties of the Individual Officer include, but are not limited to:

    Presidents:

    • Create agendas and lead meetings.
    • Keep other officers on task and organized.
    • Make weekly updates to the ASB/class social media.
    • Submit a weekly report to the AC of all activities.
    • Communicate with AC and administration as needed.

    Vice Presidents:

    • Support Presidents where needed.
    • Be a liaison to the PTSA.
    • Step in if any officer cannot fulfill his/her office.
    • Assist President and Secretary in communicating to the student body with posters, announcements, and social media.

    Secretaries:

    • Keep minutes of all meetings - submit weekly to the AC.
    • E-mail bulletin announcements to the school secretary.
    • Keep records of events and activities organized.

    Treasurers:

    • Keep a detailed budget of all funds.
    • Create detailed budgets for all proposed events and fundraisers.
    • Do a reconciliation report for all fundraisers.

    Spirit Commissioners:

    • Work with ASB and class officers to engage the student body in academic, athletic, and spirit activites.
    • Manage the schedule of Sammy the Seahawk Mascot.
    • Work with sports managers and coaches to promote sports schedules and support athletics with social media.

    Application Checklist: Make sure you have included all of these items and turn them all in (in person) to Ms. Martin in the ASB office before or after school by May 10th @ 4:15pm. You can turn them in earlier than May 10th if they are done, but they will ONLY be accepted before and after school - NOT during class time! Don’t delay - plan ahead!
