Announcements from Mr. Reed:

GRADUATION!
Wednesday, June 12, 7:30 PM SWAC

Weather:  The forecast is currently calling for temperatures in the mid-60s with a 40% chance of rain during our window of time.  The ceremony will happen on the field rain or shine – graduates will be reminded to bring light weight jackets to wear under their gowns during tomorrow’s rehearsal.  Those in the stands should expect only partial covering, as about half of the bleachers are protected by cover, and any wind quickly thwarts that.

Tickets:  Tickets are required to attend the event to ensure that we have room in the bleachers.  Each graduate was given 15 tickets – and all remaining, unclaimed or unused tickets will be given out to those seniors in need during tomorrow’s rehearsal.  In addition, those that DON’T need tickets include:

•    Current and past Chief Sealth staff, Denny staff and all support programs (Dream Project, College Access Now, etc).  Please note the separate entrance upon arrival.
•    All current students (non-seniors).  Again, please note the separate entrance upon arrival.
•    All youth under the age of 12.

Accessibility:  Special areas will be reserved for those in attendance needing accommodations including those in wheelchairs or those who cannot walk down the stairs.  Please feel free to drive to the top of the stadium and drop off prior to parking.

Parking:  Parking is first-come, first-serve.  West Seattle High School is graduating before us, beginning at 5:00pm and finished around 6:00pm.   In order to allow their families and supporters time to leave, it is suggested that those coming for the Chief Sealth graduation do not park in the main SWAC lot prior to 6:45pm.  Following the completion of the WSHS ceremony, the stands will be closed briefly so that the bleacher, bathrooms and concessions can be cleaned and prepared for our graduation.   Doors will re-open no later than 7:00pm.  In addition, parking will be available along all the neighboring streets and in the school’s parking lot.

Driving directions:  As many of you know, Delridge Way SW is currently undergoing extensive revisions.  The most recent work has traffic being rerouted off of Delridge between Thistle and Holden.  Please inform those coming from outside of West Seattle to take 35th Ave SW upon arrival.  A detailed map is here

Ceremony:  Graduation will start promptly at 7:30pm.  The Class of 2013 will begin walking into the stadium beginning at 7:25pm.  Upon completion the graduates will leave the field and be available for pictures and well wishes in the SWAC parking lot at approximately 9:00pm.  No family members or supporters will be allowed on the field at any time.  Ushers will occupy the lower level of each set of stairs to ensure that people do not come down to the bottom of the stairs to stand or take pictures.

Grad Night:  Over 110 students from the Class of 2013 will be heading out on their safe-and-sober Grad Night celebration.  All those attending will need to check in at the Galleria beginning at 10:00pm and no later than 10:30pm.  A very limited number of space available tickets MAY be available on the day of.
