ReWA’s Youth Program is committed to providing high quality, culturally relevant services that develop the whole youth. Our mission is to support students in developing and accomplishing their individual goals so that they perform academically in school, pursue their unique passions and interests, and develop deep feelings of self-worth, belonging, curiosity, and investment in their communities.

Through parent education and family advocacy, we empower parents to support their youth. We believe in the importance of youth voice and choice, the need for youth to process and formulate their cultural identities, and the combined efforts of parents, family members, school staff and other community partners.

Our vision is a community where all youth –primarily those from refugee, immigrant and low income backgrounds –celebrate and explore their identities, strive to excel academically, prepare for life after adolescence, and share their talents in service to their families, their neighbors, and their world.

Post-Secondary Success Program (PSSP) and Scholarships

Post-Secondary Success Program (PSSP) provides help to youth ages 16-24 who are interested in going to college or vocational schools. PSSP participants receive:

• one-on-one coaching to help youth achieve their academic goals
• opportunities for career and major exploration
• opportunities to visit local colleges
• Help with homework
• personalized scholarship search
• guidance on writing personal statements
• assistance to complete the FAFSA or WASFA
• family-oriented workshops about the application process, financial aid, scholarships and more

College for Every Seattle Student

Free Tuition is Just the Beginning.

Seattle Promise brings college education within reach for every Seattle public high school student, no matter your grades or finances. Students accepted to the program can receive up to two years (or 90 credits) of free college tuition at North Seattle College, Seattle Central College, or South Seattle College, as well as personalized support to transition from high school and succeed in college.

All Seattle public high school students in the 2020 graduating class are eligible. Students will begin their studies at Seattle Colleges in fall 2020.

Support to Thrive in College

Focus on your studies without the financial burden of tuition. During your senior year of high school, we’ll help you complete college and financial aid applications, choose your first classes, and help you prepare for college success.

Seattle Promise Services

• Free Tuition: Two years (or up to 90 credits) of free tuition at the Seattle Colleges.
• College Preparation: Support preparing for life on campus, assistance choosing and registering for classes, introductions to college instructors and more to help you get ready for college.
• Year-Round Support: Regular check-ins with the Seattle Promise team to help you navigate your college experience from start to finish.
• Long-Term Planning: Advising to help plan your next steps, including opportunities for gaining a summer internship and work experience.
• Financial Support Beyond Tuition: Assistance with other school-related expenses such as books, child care, food, housing, and transportation.

TRIO Talent Search

The TRIO Talent Search program at South Seattle College is a free, federally-funded program that serves middle and high school students attending Cascade Middle School, Denny International Middle School, Career Link High School, Chief Sealth International High School, and Evergreen High School. We help low-income and first-generation college-bound students successfully graduate from secondary school and enroll in post-secondary education.

Talent Search identifies and assists individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds who have the potential to succeed in higher education. The program provides academic, career, and financial counseling to its participants and encourages them to graduate from high school and continue on to and complete their postsecondary education. The program publicizes the availability of financial aid and assist participant with the postsecondary application process.

Our Mission

To help low-income and potential first-generation college students succeed in high school, get accepted to college and STEM majors, and graduate with a STEM degree.

Who Should Apply

Sophomores who are:

• Motivated to pursue degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM)
• From a low-income family and/ or will be the first generation in their family to earn a four-year college degree
• A U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident and not participating in any other Federal TRIO Programs (Upward Bound or TRIO Talent Search)

Students can apply online for STEMsub or get an application from their counselor.

Upward Bound (UB) is a federally-funded program that assists students in their pursuit of a high school diploma and prepares them to enter and complete a post-secondary education program. Housed in the Office of Minority Affairs & Diversity, UW’s program is one of over 826 Upward Bound programs in the United States.

Who We Serve

UW Upward Bound serves qualified students at Seattle’s Franklin, Chief Sealth International and Cleveland High Schools; and students from Kent-Meridian High School who are from economically disadvantaged backgrounds and/or will be the first in their family to complete a four-year college degree.
